What We Use

The Flying Caterpillars approach can benefit anyone at any juncture of their lives and careers to gain self awareness, break through dilemmas, achieve life goals and attain confidence.

We help you take flight faster and fuller, using

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) assessment has helped millions of people worldwide gain insights about themselves and how they interact with others—and improve how they communicate, learn, and work. It provides a powerful framework for building better relationships, driving positive change, harnessing innovation, and achieving excellence. The MBTI® assessment makes Carl Jung's theory of psychological type both understandable and highly practical by helping individuals identify their preferences in four areas:

  1. where you draw your energy and focus your attention
  2. how you like to receive information and gain new knowledge
  3. your preferred or most comfortable way of using that information to make decisions
  4. how you deal with the world and people around you

In addition, MBTI® Step II Interpretive Report reveals facets of each of the four preferences, and how they interact with one another to result in your unique personality.

The MBTI® Tool was first developed more than 70 years ago and is backed by 50 years of scientific research. Today, it continues to be researched and developed globally. It is currently used by 89 of the Fortune 100 companies, as well as thousands of smaller companies to promote team cohesiveness, higher productivity and talent development by improving people's understanding of themselves and one another. Deepening self-awareness in the workplace can aid communication, leadership development, conflict resolution, dealing with change/change management, and stress management.

The MBTI® Tool is also being used in high schools and universities, social organizations, churches, and with individuals who want to be better equipped to make important life choices and decisions around relationships, careers, career transitions and even parenting!

There are numerous options available to meet a variety of requirements. If you are interested to find out more about the MBTI® tool and how it can help you, drop us a line:

Strong Interest Inventory®

The Strong Interest Inventory® assessment is one of the world’s most respected and frequently used career planning tools. It has helped both academic and business organizations develop the brightest talent and has guided thousands of individuals in their search for a rich and fulfilling career.

The Strong Interest Inventory® is based on the understanding that:

  1. All job environments activities can be divided into one of six Themes in The Holland Code and each environment is dominated by a particular type of person.
  2. People search for environments that let them exercise their skills and abilities, express their attitudes and values, take on problems and roles they find stimulating and satisfying, and avoid activities or responsibilities they find unpleasant.
  3. Fulfillment is determined by an interaction between a person’s personality and the characteristics of his or her working environment.

The Strong® assessment is a trusted tool because it is empirically based, underpinned by rigorous science and research and regularly updated to reflect changes in today’s world of work.

The Strong® assessment is ideal for a wide range of applications:

Balance and fulfillment – helps identify activities that a person can pursue to balance or counter dissatisfaction resulting from working in a contradictory Theme.

Employee engagement and career development—helps employees align interests with areas of responsibility in their job that reflect those interests, and heighten self-awareness to provide deeper understanding of individual strengths and blind spots.

The Strong® assessment is also being used to help students choose courses of study and career interests; and with early- and mid-career professionals to explore career transition options.

Brain-Based Results Coaching

In Brain-Based Results Coaching, we use neuroscience findings to help elevate your thinking and drive your actions towards your visions. Here are a few examples of situations where it can help achieve calm and clarity, and result in fulfilment faster and fuller:

Dilemma Coaching

Are you facing a decision you can’t make? Do you wish to accomplish something but can only see the obstacles standing in your way? Are you unable to choose between two (or more) alternatives?

Speaking to a coach can help open up your thinking so that you view the problem from new perspectives you haven’t considered before.

How it works:

Brain-based coaching works by elevating your thinking to visioning outcomes and moving you away from issues and details. Recognizing that every brain is unique, and from the knowledge that we all hold the answers to solve our own issues, we work using questions that challenge you to stretch your thinking. Coaching can be uncomfortable and difficult, and the answers you find can sometimes lead you to more questions, which are the doors to more insights.

Habit Conversations

Habits, both good and bad, come in all forms and sizes. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’ve been doing something habitually. If you have noticed and identified a habit that you want to stop or change, or have had difficulty doing this on your own, then having a Habit Conversation with a Coach could be the solution you’re looking for.

How it works:

Neuroscience tells us that habits cannot be broken, that all our behaviors once hardwired cannot be “erased”. We help you understand your habit by breaking it down, and help you to understand how to use neuroscience to overcome the old behaviors and develop new habits.

Coaching Engagement: Goals, Strategies and Actions

Feeling a little lost with your career planning? Do you want to be more effective in your relationships? Something seems to be missing from your life?

Consciously setting goals and planning actions is often something we have neither time nor energy for, even when we know its importance.

How it works:

Over the course of an agreed number of structured sessions, we will support you to set inspiring goals in important areas of your life, develop strategies and follow up with actions to achieve them.

How We've Helped

When I was confused and depressed over my lack of clarity with my career progression and personal goals a few months ago, my close friend noticed and recommended that I speak with Charles, as he himself had benefitted from Charles’ guidance before.

I contacted Charles and he was extremely approachable yet professional. My first impression was that he was very meticulous and patient in understanding my situation.

We met in person a few times and also followed up via phone calls and messaging. Throughout the process, he made it very meaningful, beneficial and enjoyable with his easy-going personality and clear communications.

We set clear, achievable goals and laid down strategies within my time-line. With Charles’s help and encouragement, I’ve been walking with confidence towards what my heart really wanted, and the courage to make changes. With that, I am now at peace with myself, totally satisfied with the outcome.

My sincere thanks to Charles whose help made it possible!

Andrew Ong, Financial Services Consultant (February 2014)

Jacqueline is a keen listener and takes a vested interest in your professional development. She offers excellent advice based on her understanding of the market and I find her a great career consultant. I will recommend Jacqueline to anyone who is looking at their next career move.

Jeffrey Law, Senior Marketing Manager Asia at Covidien Medical Devices

I found the MBTI profiling very useful in understanding my own personality and behaviors. With Jacqueline's questions and analysis, I gained a deeper self-awareness, which I have been using to be more effective in my personal and professional life. The coaching Jacqueline providing on enhancing communication and teamwork have been particularly useful in my workplace.

Cindy Tay, Senior Account Director, 3-Sixty Brand Communications

Jacqueline, for me, is the epitome of a career mentor. Contrary to the traditional headhunters, she treats her clients with a personal touch. She goes beyond aggressive opportunity matching. She listens and understands your needs and discusses her plans to align with your thinking.

Her marketing background enables her to speak with you the same language.

Jacqueline is very transparent and upfront but handles all the conversations with due care. Sincerity and integrity are her two key pillars of success in the industry.

Needless to say, it is a pleasure to have worked with her in the past.

Allan Ticatic, Head of Marketing, Kraft Food Singapore

Our customised team workshop by Flying Caterpillars was fun & educational, with insights that are useful for applying to life and work.

James Koh, CEO, James Kenneth Koh Executive Search

Charles' insights into the thinking of hirers gave me great tips on tailoring my CV to score my desired position.

Gerry Wong, formerly Account Director, Weber Shandwick

Charles has inspired me to reach beyond the now and to believe that I can achieve greater things. Our coaching sessions were fun and infused with Charles' keen sense of humour and positive energy.

Erika Visser, Internal Projects Manager, FutureBrand

Working with Charles was exactly what I needed in my life. After graduation, I had spent six years working and was on my way to a new Masters program, but I lacked clarity of who I was. I did not recognize my own value, nor did I have any idea what was in store for the next stage of life. However, with his guidance and coaching, he helped me see a side of myself I never thought to look for.

Charles comes well equipped with experiences and tools to help you gain mindfulness and clarity. Thus you are enabled to help yourself in the areas you feel are necessary, in a quick and efficient manner. He listens intently and patiently in a very controlled way that always made me feel comfortable. Through colorful analogies and metaphors, he redirects what you say back to you in terms that are easy to understand and digest. I cannot believe what kind of person I was projecting! I did not like it and so it ignited a drive to work toward a better me.

Since our work together, I have developed a more confident stance in my voice and personal branding. It has illuminated a clearer path for where I wanted to grow while in graduate school and I have a strong new fervor for my next career step. It is without a doubt that Charles helped reframe my outlook to see things for what they truly are. It helped me take up a new cadence in life to which I cannot stop dancing to.

Charles has a genuine passion for you and is excited to help you in your journey. Despite original reservations of cost and "is it worth it" questions, I now whole heartedly recommend Charles to be part of your "team". Keeping you at the very center of this entire processs, he helps you see your potential, rather than limitation.

Christian Tanja, MBA student

Charles helped bring out my potential when my career was causing me self-doubt & frustration.

He helped me structure a plan and secure a job I really wanted. He also trained me to keep focused - something I'm not good at, being an ENFP. With Charles’ guidance and encouragement, I identified and pursued other things in life that energise me. While maintaining professionalism as a career coach, he also made every session meaningful and fun!

He polished this raw diamond (*ahem*) and for that, I am forever grateful. This journey of self-discovery has made me a better person - compassionate, passionate, driven & purposeful.

I hope Charles can continue working his magic on others!

Chris Cheong, marketing specialist, natural resources industry

MBTI® Team Workshop for Singapore Institute of Technology

What a breath of fresh air! Working with Flying Caterpillars truly opened up the eyes of my team members to each individual personality and helped each of us appreciate our innate strengths and weaknesses. The honesty and openness over the few hours certainly helped to bond us all as one. Couldn’t have asked for more!

Desmond Soon, Director, Corporate Communications, Singapore Institute of Technology

Initially, I was skeptical about the entire exercise, however I left the workshop with a better understanding of myself and how I will react during stressed times. So, good job on that!

Charlie Koh, Manager

You guys did a very good job explaining how the profiling should be done, and were careful to steer us away from potential pitfalls. You were patient with our questions, and open to listening to our stories. I appreciated that you took time to explain things in context and to contextualise the examples and activities you used. The activities were also interesting, and there was enough variety that we were kept interested while at the same time allowing us to absorb better.

Joyce Chen, Manager

Understanding the preferences helped me to grasp the motivations behind my choices, and the kind of reaction I would effect on others when I’m behaving a certain way. The conscious effort to recognise and, in a way, "weigh" my possible actions and words, can help me to make better choices, especially when working in a team. Thanks again for the great session :)

Sarah Loh, Executive

The MBTI session was definitely a very useful opportunity to understand myself better, even though I had done this some time back. I find the session beneficial as I learn how to be more conscious of myself and turn my weaknesses into strength.

Frederick Khoo, Manager

I found the session very informative and really beneficial in helping us understand ourselves better. Once again, thank you for the workshop and I do look forward to more interesting sessions with you at Flying Caterpillars.

Edmund Wee, Senior Manager

I enjoyed the session very much and it was extremely fun and useful. It provided vital, structured insights into why/how I approach issues. The customised workshop allowed me to better understand my team and using that knowledge to communicate in a way which will resonate with them.

Corinna Choh, Assistant Manager

Thank you for the most interesting session. I enjoyed it thoroughly and wished we had more time. Overall, I think the profiling session was insightful, not just to better understand myself but how I can better work with my colleagues.
